Desert Flower

11 episodes of Heroes on DVD in a breathe of 2 nights... now suffering the painful withdrawal symptoms such as cold sweat, depression, fatigue, bad dreams (of me saving my mum), anxiety, insomnia, lost of appetite, dizziness, concentration problems, flu, fever, cough... paleness... constipation, while i try to figure out what’s going to happen to Peter Petreli is he really going to explode after absorbing every heroes’ power? Sylar.. did he really kill the big eye short hair Winona Wyder look-a-like gal who has a hypnotizing power? Niki, is she going to jail, will she walk out from Jessica? The Cheerleader... what’s she going to.....

Before I go berserk in the absence of the superheroes... I picked up Desert Flower by Waris Dirie, a beautiful book telling the true story of a desert nomad’s life, illustrating the magnificent beauty of nature in the Somali desert, i could feel the drought, smell the rain, see the dance around bush fire and racing camels, hear the birds chirping, taste the simple carefree life, until the female circumcision where i couldn’t bare reading the pain that millions of girls as lil as 5 years old had to go through. At 12, She fled from an arranged marriage to a man old enough to be his grandfather, ran and ran for days risking to be eaten alive by lions. Then, she became a supermodel and now a UN ambassador, a spokesperson for women’s right in Africa. It was so intriguing, I finished reading it in 3 nights, would have been 2 if it weren’t for the powerful drowsy cough mixture that put me into dreamy snoozing mode.... now awaiting for another book adventure with ‘the curious incident of the dog in the night time’, while I hunt down Desert Children and Desert Dawn. Anyone read it already?

Anyway, i’m organizing an infant massage forum this Sat @ Le Meridien, 2-5pm. Anyone with adorable lil wonders are welcome to join in and learn about the goodness and techniques of infant massage. And of course.. how can i miss out the end credit... it is brought to you by Johnson’s Baby. *smile*

We can all be Heroes and help Save The World

If you only watch one film this month.
Make it An Inconvenient Truth.
Al Gore showed how beautiful earth is, how it has changed and how awfully ugly and alarming it will soon become if we do not take good care of it. An excellent educational tool and finally is gaining some publicity only after winning the Oscar. 1 hour 40 mins of distressing data and facts about the global warming. Perhaps there’s a reason why it wasn’t in the media before, that it might raise controversy? Forget about pollution by the Americans for a moment, let's look at something and somewhere closer, take the bush fire in Sumatra for example, numerous peat conversion fires, slash-and-burn agriculture fires, and wildfires affecting millions suffering from poor air condition and breathing problems caused by the hazardous haze. In the end, who were the culprits?? Ha! The plantations were owned by Malaysians. The issue continued and conveniently shoved under the carpet year after year. How nice.

Check out crisisclimate.net on what we can do to stop global warming.
It takes little effort. Such as recycling, making sure your tires are properly inflated, turn off electronic devices when you are not using it, clean/replace aircon filters etc.

We own the globe, we have the responsibility.
Let’s make it a beautiful one.

Illuminated Rumi

I stumbled upon this poem by Jelaluddin Rumi, the mystic poet born in Afghanistan in 1207 and spent most of his life in Konya, Turkey. His passionate and playful poems make me cry, laugh and certainly ponder… Here's a great one.

"One went to the door of the Beloved and knocked. A voice asked, 'Who is there?'He answered, 'It is I.'
The voice said, 'There is no room for Me and Thee.'The door was shut.
After a year of solitude and deprivation he returned and knocked.A voice from within asked, 'Who is there?'The man said, 'It is Thee.'The door was opened for him."

Such selflessness.

I had been knocking and knocking. Until my knuckles are sore and painful.
Will the voice from within be as patient as the Rumi’s? I just have to keep trying. And perhaps I should start knocking from within instead, would the door be open for me. Meanwhile, I shall go find this book.

The Pursuit of HappYness

After a refreshing weeklong work trip in Bangkok… it’s pay back time which means a lousy week being swamped in heaps loada dreary reports and WIPs.. AND STILL wondering at that giant cross road if 6 months at CATC in Sydney or a predictable routine but stable career in Jalan Tandang would make me happier. I thought maybe The Pursuit of HappYness will give me some inspiration. I told G, let’s go tonight.

With some preconceptions about the film from the trailer, that looks like an ode to American dream.. tells a story set in the 1980s San Francisco and based on a true character Chris Gardner, a single father struggling to make ends meet, trying to raise his son while homeless. Will Smith walking a path totally opposite his usual comedic types, performed beyond excellence. But my fav is his son (also real-life son) Jaden Smith, who's totally natural in the movie, adorable and cheeky sometimes. I most enjoy the interaction between them both eg. The part when they play knock knock who’s there… I laughed my butt off.. every scene has its emotional plot, Will Smith’s depressing scene is exhaustively moving and heartbreaking as he distills every drop of emotion! I was completely drained at the end of it. ok ok... shouldn’t give away too much, else for those who hasn’t seen it will be cursing and swearing at this blog!

Anyway, we must be damn lucky, to have a job, let alone a nice comfy roof over our head with food on the table.

Thanks mum & dad !

Still… you know what will make me jump right now?? Heroes DVD !!!
I have blardy missed 2.5 episodes – 3,4 & 1st ½ of 5 !! man…. This is not good at all.
